A very rare Austrian Biedermeier style (1815-1848) Erotica. The walnut frame holds a walnut incased circular cast bronze medallion depicting a classical scene of four horseman ,two dogs and woman and child with a large tent in the background.
The circular walnut frame can be lifted from the rectangular frame as it is displayed on the wall revealing a  more colorful scene. The interior scene framed under glass and carved in hand painted wax reveals three harlequins and a masked naked lady in a very interesting variation of the butterfly position.

Carl Kauba (Austrian 1865-1922) "Metamorphosis"The rarest of all Kauba 's Art Nouveau mechanical sculptures, circa 1910. Signed, fully mechanical, multi colored patina and gilt bronze sculpture with plique-a-jour enameled filigree wings. Modeled as a butterfly resting on a foliate rocky mound; once the antlers are unclipped, the figure slowly raises mechanically to reveal a nude female figure with open plique-a-jour enamel wings.Superb original condition and fully working. The figure is set on an elaborate and pleasingly colored striated marble base, possibly for display on a gentleman's desk. Kauba 's Metamorphosis is also illustrated in the Berman book of Bronzes page 611 volume 3.
