Erna von Engel-Baiersdorf Clara was born Baiersdorf de Erdősi on September 24th , 1889 in Vienna and died July 30th , 1970 in Vancouver ,Canada. Erna Engel Baiersdorf lived and worked in Vienna, Budapest, Mühlbach / Transylvania, Pecs and Vancouver. In July of 1944 she was admitted into the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and later transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp where she renained until December of 1944. She was known as a painter, sculptor and prestigious anthropological reconstructionist. Baiersdorf worked on the staff of the Natural History Museum in both Budapest and Vienna and was also named curator of the Natural History Museum in Pecs, Hungary. Baiersdorf wrote several published articles on the anthropological reconstruction of animals, reptiles and humans represented in both scupture and paintings. Many of her reonstuction model works and treatises are preserved in the Natural History Museums in Budapest, Pecs, Vienna , and Vancouver.
