Edgardo Simone (b. Brindisi Italy 1890, d. 1948 Hollywood California).Bronze bust of a young woman
The son of a Brindisi doctor, Simone studied at the Beaux Arts Academy in Rome from 1906-1913. He  worked in New York, Chicago and California after immigrating from Italy . Signed E.Simone .Foundry markings for Lagana Napoli  Italy.

Karel Opatrny (Czech 1881-1961) "Mermaid Pool" The baluster silvered Art Nouveau pewter vase is signed, circa 1900, and has 2 applied mermaids, a lobster, sea snail, a grotesque fish and poppies. The body of the vase has a semi relief design of waterfalls, swimming fish and water lilies amidst an aquatic background

Emory Pius Seidel (American 1881 -1954) A signed and patinated dark brown /olive green sculpture on a verde antico marble base of an art deco dancer in a pose similar to the pose of the Hindu dancer by Belgian sculptor Claire Colinet. Seidel was a sculptor and painter from Chicago.As early as 1913 he was exhibiting both paintings and sculpture. He won the 1925, John C. Shaffer Prize from the Art Institute of Chicago. Many of his later sculptures are bas relief decorative works. The present sculpture is one of his more artistic and rare works and dates to the early 1920's

Holme Cardwell  (English 1815-1887) "Sabrina" A  tour de force bronze cast with superb hand finishing signed and dated 1865 "Fecit Roma" Holme Cardwell was born in Manchester England and attended London's Royal Academy Schools in 1834, at the age of 19 winning a silver medal in 1839. He moved to Paris in 1841 and studied under David d'Angers (1788-1856), exhibiting with distinction at the Académie Royale In 1850. He settled in Rome in 1858, sending works to England for exhibition at the Royal Academy . The marble version of this sculpture was first exhibited at the Royal Academy London 1855 inventory number 1225 Roma (notating that the artist lived abroad) and Titled "Sabrina" and was displayed with the accompanying poem by John Milton.

Bretislav Benda (Czech 1897-1983) "The Temptation". An early monumental allegorical figure circa 1921 green /brown patinated bronze sculpture of a nude female figure with her right index finger in a beckoning position while she holds an apple as she stands on the shoulders of a crouching devil.  Her right arm supports a hovering angel aloft on her shoulder.Signed with the monogram BB

Jean-Baptiste Belloc ( French born in Parniers 1863 -1919 Paris ) "Eve après le pêché " (Eve after the fall / sin) . A possibly unique bronze studio sketch model of Eve with incised signature of J. B.Belloc and foundry inscription for Leon Perzinka -Fondeur. Superb multi colored patina with evidence of artist's original pencil measurements indicating this as a possibly unique maquette design for a larger work.  Jean-Baptiste Belloc was a student of Marius Mercie and was well known for his orientalist and allegorical sculptures. Some of his exhibited and noted works are Cavalier marocain, Arabe sur un cheval cabre, Portrait of Ali Muddat ibn al-Husayn, Le méhariste triomphant, Mille et une nuits, Jeune bergère et agneau, Le mercenaire a la lance and Je changerai l'épée en un soc de charrue. As a  regular exhibitor at the Paris Salons in the 1880's and a teacher at the École Impériale Spéciale de Dessin et de Mathématiques (called La Petite École), Belloc taught Auguste Rodin. The Leon Perzinka foundry was situated in Versailles and became a favored foundry for Auguste Rodin's monumental works from as early as 1886 (Rodin's Fugit Amor) to 1901, including the Burghers of Calais and smaller sculptures including  Trois Sirènes, La Vague and Nature. The Perzinka foundry cast unique pieces for their client sculptors, unlike their competition who had foundries in Paris.
In the exotic gardens of Bir-Hakiem in the town of Perpignan stands one of Belloc's larged works - "Le printemps et Bacchus" a 5.5 meter high marble fountain carved in 1899

Max Klinger (German, 1857-1920) A life size bronze sculpture of "Badende"( Bather)  Black / green patinaed bronze .  Signed and with the foundry inscription of H.Gladenbeck & Sohn foundry Berlin and numbered 3.
This sculpture is from an edition of five numbered casts authorized by Max Klinger in 1903,  from the marble original now in the Leipzig Museum he carved in 1898. The model for the sculpture was Elsa Asenijeff, Max Klinger 's model and his long-standing unofficial companion .

Louis-Ernest Barrias (French 1841-1905) “La Dance” An allegorical figure of   music and dance.   A rare bronze sculpture signed E.Barrias circa 1880, the base inscribed Susse Fres Edit Paris and also with foundry seal and a stamped letter P   underneath the foundry seal.

Willard Dryden Paddock (American 1873-1956) A fine and rare early 20th century walking cane handle cast in bronze of a crouching female nude signed and dated 1906 and numbered 10 with Gorham foundry marks ( now set on a wooden sockle.
Dimensions: Height of bronze alone 3&1/2 inche, by 4 inches in width, with period wood sockle 5 inches high
P.Knotz (Austrian early 20th century)  A Circa 1917 bronze female boxer, quite possible a circus or carnival performer. Signed by P.Knotz and inscribed Made in Austria.

Vittorio Guttner (Italian 1869 -1937) "Eve after the Fall" Monumental signed Art Nouveau bronze inkwell of a sleeping nude female at the base of a tree. Cast circa 1910. Guttner was a close friend of the German writer Karl May and completed Western subjects for him in 1928.

Charles William Ayton (American Born around 1879) "O-kiku-san" Madame Chrysantheme.   Ayrton was an American sculptor from St Louis MO, Studied in Paris and exhibited at the 1904 Great Exhibition of St Louis.  This bronze is inspired by the exotic book Madame Chrysantheme by Pierre Loti of 1887 . Superb green/ brown patina, signed and inscribed Paris and with foundry marks for Barbedienne Fondeur.

Toma Rosandic (Serbo-Croatian, 1879-1959) "Devica" Unique  signed bronze bronze circa 1917. Provenance: From the collection of Sir Edward Maufe (best known for designing Guildford Cathedral). Exhibited in London 1930 and Fine Arts Society London 1986. Toma Rosandic, a Serbo-Croatian artist, was born in Split on the Dalmatian coast, the son of a stone worker.  During the early years in Split, Croatia, Rosandic learned to carve in wood as well as stone .He toured Italy and exhibited in Milan and Belgrade in 1906 and 1912.  With the outbreak of war Rosandic left for London where he exhibited at the Grafton Galleries in 1917 and later in Brighton and Edinburgh. It was here in the same year at the Grafton that he first exhibited the original model of Devica, which he had carved in walnut wood and from which one unique cast was authorized by Rosandic. Sir Hugh Casson commented that in this work one can appreciate the originality and personal style of Rosandic better than in any other. Many of his bronze projects at this time were cast at the Vozdovac Foundry. The Toma Rosandic Memorial Museum Belgrade, has a superb collection of his works including the original wood sculpture of Devica.This sculpture is illustrated in many books of early 20th century sculpture.
