Friedrich Nerly (German1807-1878) Three original sketchbooks, watercolor and graphite dating from 1830- 1833. Many of the pages are signed , There are three sketch books, 1st one 34 by 24 cm with 35 pages, 2nd one 27 by 20cm with 27 pages and 3rd one 22 by 15cm with 32 pages plus 9 loose pages of various landscape scenes, figures, faces, monuments and architectural details, primarily of Venice. Some are dated, some have titles and addresses of where he stayed and there is also a letter from the artist. The books contain ideas for paintings and give a fascinating insight into the day to day life of this vedute painter.The Angermuseum in the artists home town of Erfurt mounted a major exhibition of Friedrich Nerly's works in 2006. |
